A relentless heatwave is gripping North India, with Delhi and surrounding states bearing the brunt of soaring temperatures. The monsoon’s progress has been sluggish. Temperatures in numerous areas have surpassed 45 degrees Celsius. In the capital, Delhi, cooling measures are struggling to cope. Uttar Pradesh is also experiencing elevated temperatures.
Today, Delhi is forecast to have a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius. Strong, dusty winds and heat waves are anticipated during the day. The weather is set to change in the evening with thunderstorms and a possibility of light rain late at night. Delhi can expect rainfall from June 13th to 16th, providing much-needed respite from the heat.
In Uttar Pradesh, some areas may see light rain while others, particularly in the west and Bundelkhand regions, are likely to experience heat waves for the next couple of days. The monsoon’s arrival in UP is expected around June 15th, which may bring relief.
Bihar witnessed severe heat on Wednesday, though some districts received heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. However, South Bihar is still extremely hot. Jharkhand is likely to experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning throughout the day.
Rajasthan is under a scorching heatwave, with a weather change expected. A rain alert is in effect for 4 districts on June 14th. Madhya Pradesh has issued an orange alert for heat waves and a yellow alert for rainfall in several districts.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in central Karnataka. Moderate to heavy rain is also expected in coastal and interior Karnataka. Eastern and northern Tamil Nadu are under a very heavy rainfall warning. Heavy rain is expected in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. Maharashtra is likely to see heavy downpours in many areas over the next 4-5 days.
