Ramdas Athawale, a Union Minister, has expressed support for the BJP’s demand that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resign following a stampede at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Athawale criticized Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for rejecting the demand, noting that Congress previously made similar demands. Athawale stated it is the opposition’s duty to seek resignations in such instances, citing Congress’s past calls for the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following a Mahakumbh stampede. Athawale stated the CM should resign because of the government’s failure to manage the crowd, which resulted in multiple deaths. Siddaramaiah has dismissed the BJP’s demand, accusing them of playing politics, and questioned their silence during similar incidents in Uttar Pradesh. The Karnataka government has suspended some police officials and ordered an investigation into the incident.
