A significant amendment to the smoking regulations in Jharkhand has been enacted, with President Droupadi Murmu granting approval to the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Bill, 2021. The key change is a substantial increase in the fine for public smoking, now set at ₹1,000. The law, passed by the state assembly, also includes provisions to penalize the sale of tobacco products to minors and reinforces the state’s commitment to reducing tobacco use.
