A senior police officer, ASP Akash Rao Giripunje, was martyred in an IED blast in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, which was allegedly orchestrated by Naxalites. The explosion took place near Dondra village on Monday. The ASP was on a foot patrol in the area in response to a bandh called by CPI(M). The injured officers were taken to Konta hospital. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed sorrow, noting the officer’s bravery and valor. The incident follows previous attacks by Naxals, including a major incident in January 2025, where nine people were killed. The ongoing insurgency poses significant challenges to counter-Naxal operations.
