A case of medical negligence has emerged from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, where a government hospital refused to admit a pregnant woman, incorrectly claiming the fetus had died. The woman was later admitted to a private hospital where she delivered a healthy baby.

Vinod Sav shared that he traveled with his wife, Manisha Devi, from Chalcusha block to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College & Hospital. Hospital staff declined admission, citing low hemoglobin and claiming the unborn child had perished.

Seeking a second opinion, the couple turned to a private hospital in the same district. Manisha subsequently delivered a healthy infant. Vinod Sav thanked the private hospital’s medical staff for the safe delivery.

The Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner, Shashi Prakash Singh, ordered an investigation into the matter and instructed the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College & Hospital to form a committee. The Deputy Commissioner noted, ‘Government hospitals are responsible for providing affordable healthcare. We are investigating why care was denied.’

Dr. Praveen Kumar, owner of the private hospital, explained that Manisha underwent several crucial tests after admission, all with satisfactory results. He confirmed, ‘Both mother and newborn are doing well.’
