Border–Gavaskar Trophy: Kohli and captain Rohit’s flop show continues in Test cricket, will India’s problems increase on Australia tour?

Border–Gavaskar Trophy: The flop show of Indian team’s star batsman Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma continues in Test cricket. Both the legends have not been able to play big innings for a long time. Virat and Rohit disappointed in Mumbai too after falling 2-0 in the three-Test series against New Zealand. Indian captain Rohit Sharma returned to the pavilion after scoring just 18 runs, when Matt Henry got him caught out by Tom Latham standing in the slips. At the same time, Virat Kohli was run out on only 4 runs. The poor form of both of them has increased the tension for the Indian team management before the Australia tour.

India has to play a five-Test series against Australia from November 22. This tour is very important for India to reach the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). To make it to the finals, India has to play a total of six Tests, including the last match of the series being played against New Zealand in Mumbai, out of which it is mandatory to win four matches and draw two. In such a situation, if the poor performance of Virat and captain Rohit continues even on the Australia tour, it may be difficult for India to reach the WTC final.

Indian captain has been out of form for a long time

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been out of form for quite some time. He last scored a century against England in Dharamsala on 7 March 2024. After this, he played innings of 6 and 5 runs in Chennai Test and 23 and 8 runs in Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. However, in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand, he showed signs of returning to form by scoring 52 runs in the second innings after being out for 2 runs in the first innings, but disappointed again in the Pune Test. He scored 0 runs in the first innings of Pune Test and 8 runs in the second.

Virat scored his last century in July 2023

At the same time, Indian star batsman Virat Kohli scored his last century in Test cricket against West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023. In this match, Virat scored 121 runs in the first innings, which was the 29th century of his Test career. Since then, 35-year-old Kohli has not scored a century.
