IPL 2025: Why are teams struggling to choose retained players? Because of this the screw got stuck, understand the whole ‘game’

IPL 2025: The deadline for teams to finalize retention for the mega auction of IPL 2025 has been set for October 31. Know where the problem is getting stuck.

IPL 2025: There is to be a mega auction for IPL 2025. Before this, teams will release the list of their retained and released players. This time there has been a change in the retention rules, so teams are still not able to take any decision regarding their retained players. BCCI has directed all the 10 teams to submit the list of their retained players by October 31, so that the further process can be expedited.

Actually, this time the rules of retention have created difficulties for the teams, because they are forced to think many times before retaining their favorite players. The reason behind this is the salary scale. According to the new BCCI rules, all teams can retain a maximum of 6 players. Which will also include an uncapped one.

Retention Salary Scale for IPL 2025

First retention – Rs 18 croreSecond retention – Rs 14 croreThird retention – Rs 11 croreFourth retention – Rs 18 croreFifth retention – Rs 14 crore

4 crores will have to be spent on uncapped players

The price of the first retention has been kept at Rs 18 crore, the second at Rs 14 crore and the third at Rs 11 crore. After this, if the team wants to do the fourth retention then it will have to spend Rs 18 crores and after that for the fifth retention it will have to spend up to Rs 14 crores. The team can use an RTM i.e. Right to Match card, it will have to spend Rs 4 crore to retain an uncapped player.

The problem here?

BCCI has kept the retention price very high. Teams want to retain their favorite players, but for this they will have to spend a lot of money. Although BCCI has increased the purse to Rs 120 crore, it is still difficult for teams to spend huge amount on only three-four players. They also have to think about how the rest of the team will be formed, because according to the rules it is mandatory to have 18 to 25 players in any team.

What is the plan of the teams now?

This time there is a possibility that many big players may be released from their teams, which was rarely seen earlier. This will create a lot of excitement in the auction. Team managements are considering releasing the players and buying them back at a lower price in the auction, which can prove to be a profitable deal. By October 31, it will be clear which team retained which player and who was released.
