Jam in Phalka market.

HighLights

There are places of worship of 04 religions in Phalka market. 5th generation shopkeepers are sitting here. Customers come even from 30 km away to shop.

Priyank Sharma-Naiduniya. Gwalior. About 500 meters long Phalka Bazaar from Ram Mandir intersection to Chapparwala bridge is one-way, but the traffic police staff is not able to enforce it. A big private girls’ school is on this route, but due to traffic jam, children have to suffer for hours. Apart from big eating establishments, there are big shops of sweets, gajak and decorations and clothes on this route.

Shoppers have to park their vehicles on the road and go shopping. Parking is a big problem in this market. Named after Sardar Phalke of the Scindia royal family, many streets of this market are inhabited. These people have to face traffic jams in the market every day.

Here, traffic flows one after the other on a 50 feet wide road, but due to traffic coming from the road leading to Kajal Talkies, a triangle like situation is created. This is the place where traffic jams have been occurring for years. Despite there being a police post just a short distance away, the traffic police are seen here only when there is a jam. Apart from this, the dilapidated road is also affecting the business here.

Main problems of the market

Vehicles are parked on the main road only. Due to this, the way to reach shops gets obstructed. The shopkeepers themselves and their employees also park their vehicles on the road. Public convenience center does not exist for the use of women. Even the toilets meant for men are dirty. As festivals approach, the problem of footpaths also increases.

These are the features

There are 200 shops in Falka. There is a 50 feet wide road in Topi Bazaar. There is a church here which is more than 225 years old. There are 02 sectors in Phalka Bazaar.

Traders should take resolution

Keep two dustbins outside shops. Put wet and dry waste separately. Install CCTV cameras and share the footage if needed. Do not park your own or employee’s vehicles on the road. Garment and grocery traders should not spread their goods on the road. Stop and advise customers who litter in the open. Follow the rules made by the traders association yourself and get others to follow it too. Use only the convenience center for toilets.

Market named after Sardar Phalke, people got confused and started considering it as fruit market

According to Vivek Phalke, a descendant of Sardar Phalke, at the time when members of the Scindia royal family used to live in Gorkhi Mahal, residences of their generals were also built in the surrounding areas. The first place of Sardars on the way from Gorkhi via Sarafa Bazar was Sardar Patankar Bazar and just ahead of it Sardar Phalke had established Phalke Bazar. Phalka market has always been a mixed market, but at one time it was corrupted and started being called fruit market. This is the reason why even today some fruit shops are seen in this market. After this it started being called Phalka Bazaar instead of Phalke Bazaar. Many shops in this market are still years old.

There should be parking arrangements

The biggest problem in Phalka market is parking. Due to lack of parking, vehicles are parked on the road and traffic jams are created every day. This affects business the most.
