Navdunia Representative, Bhopal. Police have solved the mystery of death of Sangeeta Kushwaha and her 15 month old child Nitin due to drowning in a well under suspicious circumstances in Gunga police station area of Berasia tehsil on Saturday afternoon. During investigation, the police came to know that after marriage, Sangeeta was being harassed by her in-laws to bring dowry. Due to this, Sangeeta committed suicide along with the innocent child.
Police have registered a case of dowry death against husband Sunil, brother-in-law Govind, father-in-law Babulal, mother-in-law Bhagwati and sister-in-law Asha. The accused husband and brother-in-law have also been arrested. After the incident, the in-laws had told the police that the woman was plucking custard apple from a tree near the well with the child in her lap, when she lost her balance and fell into the well.
Gunga police station in-charge HS Verma said that 27-year-old Sangeeta, resident of Nalkheda, Berasia, was married to farmer Sunil Kushwaha, resident of Gunga, in August 2022. He also had a son of about 15 months, Nitin. On Saturday afternoon, Sangeeta, carrying her son in her lap, had gone to worship at the place of the goddess near the well, 50 meters away from the house. At around 12.30 pm, she had fallen into the well with the child under suspicious circumstances. The relatives took out the bodies of both of them with the help of the villagers.
This case was investigated by SDOP Barisaya Sarvapriya Sinha. In the brief post-mortem report, the death of mother and son was said to be due to drowning. Sangeeta’s maternal family alleged in their statement that after the marriage, her in-laws including her husband had started pressurizing her to bring dowry from her maternal home. For this the daughter was physically and mentally harassed. It is for this reason that he took such a step. The absconding accused are being searched.
