A youth resident of Jaitwara was the victim of a bike accident. Reached AIIMS after 10 days of treatment in a private hospital. There are less than 10 cases of his condition in the world.
Navdunia Representative, Bhopal. A young man who was a victim of a road accident had lost his eyesight. After the incident, the eye got stuck in his brain, which was successfully removed and fitted in the right place by a team of doctors from four departments of AIIMS.
AIIMS management said that the patient from Jaitwara village located near Bhopal was the victim of a bike accident on August 20, 2024, due to which he lost the vision in both his eyes. The matter was further complicated by the fact that in the accident his left eye had reached a hollow inside a small bone between the eyes.
This is a rare situation. There are less than 10 such cases in the world. During the surgery, the affected left eye was removed and the brain nerves and injured nose were also treated.
The patient came to the hospital in serious condition
According to the information, after the accident, the patient was treated in a private hospital for 10 days. Where he and his family members were told that the eye had fallen out during the accident. When the patient’s condition started deteriorating, the family took him to AIIMS Bhopal. Where in MRI examination the eye was seen stuck inside. After which a team of four departments was formed for the patient’s surgery. The team first removed the eye stuck near the brain. After this, the leakage from the affected nerves of the brain and nose was stopped.

Due to the accident, the patient had also lost the vision in his other eye. After successful surgery at AIIMS, the patient has regained vision in his other eye. However, right now the patient is able to see only blurry vision. According to doctors, if the patient had come to the hospital within 6 hours of the accident, it would have been possible to save the vision of both eyes.
These were included in the surgery team
Considering the seriousness of the injury, a team of experts from Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Trauma and Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia departments was formed for this surgery. In which mainly Dr. Amit Aggarwal (Neurosurgery), Dr. Bhavana Sharma (Ophthalmology), Dr. BL Soni (Maxillofacial Surgeon) and Dr. Vaishali Wendeskar (Anesthesia) were included.
This was an extremely complex case, requiring the cooperation of experts from multiple departments. The patient’s condition was critical, but due to the multi-pronged approach we were able to perform the surgery successfully. Now the structure of fake eyes is being prepared to make the patient’s face similar to before. Efforts are also underway to improve the vision of the other eye.
