Now the work of Ujjain-Indore Road Six Lane Project has started on the ground. Recently, President Draupadi Murmu had performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the project in Ujjain. The road will be built from Harifatak Bridge to the front of Aurobindo Hospital in Indore.

More money will be spent on its operation and maintenance than the construction of the road. The road will be built for Rs. 735 crore but the government will spend Rs. 957 crore on its operation and maintenance for the next 15 years.
The special thing is that a lot of amendments have been made in the DPR. Earlier, to implement the plan, it was proposed to acquire 1.35 hectares of land and build eight flyovers and 70 underpasses, but later the land acquisition was cancelled and it was decided to build two big bridges, two flyovers and six underpasses on the route.
Despite this, the cost of the project increased instead of decreasing. No one is ready to answer this openly. It is known that the work of State Highway No. 59, Ujjain-Indore Road Six Lane Project has started on the ground.
The President had performed the ground breaking ceremony of the project
Recently, on 19th September, President Draupadi Murmu had performed the ground breaking ceremony of the project in Ujjain. According to Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), the command of converting the 46.475 km long Ujjain-Indore four lane road into a six lane within two years has been handed over to Udaipur’s Ravi Infrabuild Company for Rs. 735 crores.
As per the plan, a six-lane road will be built from the Harifatak bridge in Ujjain to the front of the Aurobindo Hospital in Indore with 15 years of operation and maintenance. The construction will be done using the hybrid annuity method with paved shoulders. The main road will be made of asphalt and the approach road in the populated area will be made of cement concrete. After the project gets implemented, movement on this route will become more accessible.

Most tourists come to Ujjain via this Indore road. Among the main routes connecting Ujjain, this is the road where most accidents also take place. Last year in 2023, 226 accidents took place on this road in which 210 people were injured and 22 died.

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet had approved the six-lane project on 20 February 2024. It was then said that the contractor will be selected in the next three months and the six-lane will be constructed in two years. Road safety measures will be taken on the route and all the junctions will be improved.
A detailed work plan (DPR) of Rs 1692 crore has been prepared for road construction. Rs 735 crore will be spent on civil work. The main road will be made of asphalt. A separate cement-concrete approach road will be built for safe movement of the residents in the populated area.
