2 crore scam in paddy procurement centre: Farmers’ loan money embezzled, no action taken against those responsible

Rajkumar Dubey, Kanker. A scam of about Rs 2 crore has been revealed at the Kevti paddy procurement center in Bhanupratappur development block of Kanker district. This scam came to light when farmers went to the Kevti paddy procurement center to get fertilizers, seeds and cash for the Kharib crop of the year 2024. They were told that their old loan has not been deposited. Whereas the farmers had already deposited their loan amount with the operator Anil Tandiya at the paddy procurement center and got the receipt.

Confirmation of outstanding balance

According to the District Cooperative Central Bank branch Bhanupratappur, about 58 farmers have an outstanding amount of Rs 17 lakh 95 thousand 131, due to which the farmers could not get this year’s loan. Due to this, farmers are facing serious difficulties in farming. Farmers have complained about this matter to the District Cooperative Bank, SDM, Tehsildar, Collector and Deputy Registrar Kanker, but no concrete action has been taken so far.

Kevti Lamps manager Manohar Mahavir and operator Anil Tandiya have admitted the embezzlement and also gave a written assurance to return the amount by August 25, but the amount has not been deposited yet.

Irregularities in paddy procurement too

Apart from this, there has been a scam of about Rs 1 crore in the 2024 paddy purchase, in which shortage of paddy and gunny bags was found. In 2022 also, there was a shortage of paddy worth about Rs 65 lakh. In this case, the then Kewati manager Mahendra Vaidya, operator Anil Tandiya, paddy purchase in-charge Santosh Darro and gunny bag Gajendra Kumar have gone to jail.
