The water level of the ghats rose a day after the opening of seven gates of Bargi dam on Monday. The district administration had already issued an alert to maintain distance from the ghats.

Within 24 hours, the water level of Gaurighat, Tilwaraghat, Lamhetaghat, Bhedaghat increased by seven to eight feet. The Maa Narmada temple in Gaurighat got submerged, the place where the priests sit also got submerged in water.

However, for security reasons, the administration has deployed motor boats and home guard jawans. An alert has been issued for people to stay away from the coastal areas of Narmada. A meeting on disaster management was held in the district on Tuesday. During this, section and tehsil level officers were connected virtually. During the meeting, it was said that a control room has been set up in the Collectorate for flood control, whose number is 0761-2623925 and in the Municipal Corporation, the number is 0761- 2610917 and 2637503 to 510, which is operational 24 hours.

The collector told the concerned officials that in case of floods, stop traffic on bridges and culverts. Install barricades and also keep security teams. Alert people in the affected areas. Be vigilant so that there is no loss of life in case of disaster. The officers and employees on control room duty should remain alert 24 hours a day and monitor continuously.

According to the regional weather office, along with active weather systems, a cyclone is forming due to which rain is expected for four days in the districts of the state including Jabalpur. Due to the deepening of the cyclone, heavy rain is also predicted in the next three days. At present, an average of 50 percent rain has occurred in the monsoon season.
