    His office informed about the death of Fali Nariman, who was Additional Solicitor General during the government of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Nariman argued several landmark cases, including the National Judicial Appointments Commission case, which was struck down by the Supreme Court. Apart from this, he argued in the court in favor of Union Carbide, which was guilty of the Bhopal gas scandal. However, Fali S Nariman regretted this fact all his life.

    Received Padma Vibhushan in 2007

    Born on January 10, 1929, Nariman started practicing law in the Bombay High Court in 1950. In 1961 he was made a senior advocate. Served as Additional Solicitor General between 1972 and 1975 during the tenure of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. However, he resigned from this post during the Emergency. Fali Nariman was awarded the Padma Bhushan in January 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2007.

    From CGI to PM expressed grief

    Along with CJI Chandrachud, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi expressed condolences on the death of Fali S Nariman. PM Modi in his post on ‘X’ said that Fali Nariman was among the outstanding legal experts and intellectuals. He dedicated his life to ensuring justice to the common citizens. I am saddened by his demise. At the same time, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the demise of Nariman.
